FXUA’s Continued Commitment to Educational Excellence

This page is provided as a resource to our alumni, students, faculty and staff, and our wider community. This page will continue to be updated with information regarding FXUA’s accreditation and its processes related to its current accreditation status. Please check back often for updates.

ACICS submitted a filing appealing the decision from the Senior Department Official (SDO) for the United States Department of Education (USED). ACICS’ noted that it was in full compliance with the regulations, and has requested that the USED reverse the June 2, 2021 decision.  The final decision rests with the Secretary of Education or their designee. FXUA continues to monitor this situation and will keep the community appraised as the situation changes.

ON June 2, 2021, the Senior Department Official (SDO) at the United States Department of Education (USED) accepted the recommendation of the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) to withdraw ACICS’ recognition as an accreditor. The USED entrusts oversight of institutional quality to recognized accreditors. ACICS was found to be noncompliant in a series of reports that were reviewed by NACIQI in March. As a result, the SDO made a recommendation to the Secretary of Education on withdrawing recognition. ACICS has 30 days to submit an appeal to the SDO’s decision, and has noted that it will do so.

Any communication regarding this matter should be directed to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at oie@fxua.edu.

Yes. FXUA is currently an accredited institution by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). Even if the Secretary of Education were to issue a decision against ACICS, institutions accredited by ACICS would be permitted to operate for a defined period of time to find new accreditation.

FXUA’s leadership began working on finding another accreditation well before the NACIQI decision and is currently and actively working on seeking a new accreditation agency. The university has made a commitment to be as transparent as possible regarding this matter moving forward. This page will serve as a resource for such updates as permitted by other regulatory agency rules.

FXUA’s current students will be able to continue their studies uninterrupted. Students who are actively working on their degrees will be able to continue to do so at this time. Any future degrees will be considered conferred from an accredited institution while FXUA is accredited.

All degrees and certificates awarded by the institution since the university has been accredited are considered to have been earned from an accredited institution. This will continue to be the case for future degrees while FXUA remains an accredited institution.

FXUA is still able to admit and maintain its international student population. Its current students can continue studying, and its alumni can continue any Optional Practical Training (OPT) at this time.
