English is the language of instruction at Fairfax University of America, and therefore international applicants must provide evidence of English proficiency to ensure that their communication skills are sufficient for effective class participation and completion of course assignments.
English language proficiency requirements for admissions may be completed through the following options:
- Provision of valid test scores
Submit a valid score from one of the standardized tests listed below. Official English language proficiency scores more than two years old will not be accepted.
Test Graduate Program Undergraduate Program Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
88 (or equivalent) 79 (or equivalent) International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

- Remote English Proficiency Testing
Fairfax University of America offers remote English proficiency testing to incoming students across the world. To request this option, please email your Admissions Representative, or email@example.com, with your application ID. Once you have paid the placement test fee, your Admissions Representative will assist to schedule your test.
Student exempted from English Proficiency requirement
- Completion of credit requirement from an accredited US post-secondary institution
Provide an official transcript indicating completion of a minimum of 9 credit hours (graduate level) or 12 credit hours (undergraduate level) from an accredited United States post-secondary institution at which the language of instruction was English, including at least one course in English composition, academic writing, or a similar subject. The GPA for those credits, as well as the writing course, must not be lower than C-level.
- Completion of high school education within the US
Provide an official high school diploma from a recognized institution within the United States.
FXUA reserves the right to require a student to take its English Proficiency Test at FXUA when there are reasonable doubts as to the authenticity of either submitted standardized test scores or the degree of the English proficiency evidenced by other documentation.
- Completion of high school, bachelor’s, master or doctorate degree in its entirety in the following country
Provide an official transcript showing that you have earned your bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree in its entirety in the following countries.
- British Virgin Islands
- Canada (except Quebec)
- Cayman Islands
- The Philippines
- Saint Kitts and Nevis
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Turks and Caicos Islands
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- United Kingdom
Important Note: FXUA reserves the right to offer a Placement Test to any student who appears to be lacking the English proficiency to be successful in an academic program and it will make the final decisions about placement.
