I am an international relations professional with over 35 years’ experience in policy research, governance, conflict and security issues with specialized knowledge of Africa. From 1982 to 2004 worked at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. From 2009 to 2017 taught graduate and undergraduate courses at George Mason, Stratford and Strayer universities. I currently serve as a volunteer on the board of the International Monetary Fund’s Family Association which contributes to the global to the global mobility programs that help family’s transit into the DC area by providing career counselling and placement and cultural integration.

Ph.D. Linguistics, University of London, UK

As a conflict specialist with significant experience in policy research, development and implementation in Africa, I am able to draw on the wealth of knowledge I gained from my previous role as a Research Fellow with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos where I worked on projects in conflict areas and fragile and post-conflict environments in Africa. I was later appointed to head its Research and Studies Department, which consisted of 20 academic and administrative staff, as Director of Research and Studies.

Furthermore, I have undertaken consultancy work with UN agencies, the Economic Community of West African States, and the African Union on conflict resolution and management and transnational crime issues on the continent, particularly in West Africa. Other relevant experiences were with Non-Governmental Organizations within the continent (such as the African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Conflicts (ACCORD) in South Africa and African Security Dialogue and Research (ASDR) in Ghana, and international funding agencies (such as Fredrick Ebert Foundation and the Ford Foundation) on issues such as election monitoring, conflict mediation, capacity building and leadership development. I have also attended various short courses on Peace Operations at the US Institute of Peace, Project Management at Georgetown University and Conflict Resolution at Uppsala University, Sweden amongst many others.
